In the period of the First World War, the relationship between the English Grand Lodge and these overseas “daughter” grand lodges developed and strengthened. This exhibition explores the development of many of the Grand Lodges within the British Empire and marks the contribution of their forces to the First World War. It features objects, books and documents from across the world.

Join us at the Library and Museum of Freemasonry for a free talk to commemorate World Parkinson’s Day, when Professor Brian Hurwitz introduces his latest research on James Parkinson (1755 – 1824). Parkinson, the first person to describe the disease that now bears his name, published An Essay on the Shaking Palsy two hundred years ago.

For centuries symbols have been used to represent ideas or qualities and they are universally used in modern life. Freemasons use symbols to reinforce moral lessons and, when combined with words in their ceremonies, this creates a memorable learning environment.
